About the Artist
Vicky T. Hunt is the creative, redheaded, marine cephalopod-lover behind the Ginga Squid Studio.
In previous lives I have also been an engineer, chartered accountant, scuba diving instructor and most recently, a mother.
My early inspiration - for my oil paintings, came from the surreal and heavenly work of Joan Miro and the fluid and organic forms of Graham Sutherland. Since also discovering a passion for scuba diving, I have tried to combine my artworks with my love of the underwater world, its colours and its weird and wonderful inhabitants.
For my art jewellery, I seek to combine naturally occurring organic and Fair Trade materials with fine silver and semi-precious stones to form something completely unique. I also have fun sourcing rare and unique stones to make my jewellery designs one-of-a-kind pieces of wearable art.
Recently I have been having fun with fiber - wet felting and needle felting techniques in particular with knitting, crochet & spinning on my New Zealand made 'Majacraft' spinning wheel!
I love how the soft warm fibers contrast with the hard metals and unyielding stone textures in my pieces.
