Opal & Spectrolite 'Sunflower'

Opal & Spectrolite 'Sunflower'

I LOVED making this piece - its beautifully organic, took me ages and is just so unusual.

The central gemstone is a super large piece of Electric Blue Spectrolite - a gemstone discovered at the time of the Second World War and only found in Norway (50mm x 32mm). The colours are difficult to photograph - face on the stone appears dark/black, but if you tilt it slightly it errupts in electric blue/irridescent peacock colours. Really funky!

I handstitched a beaded bezel around the Spectrolite - using green bohemian crystals, sterling silver beads, chalk turquoise rondelles plus mettalic pink, midnight blue and black tiny beads.

The 'petals' of the 'sunflower' are yellow opals which have natural markings on them (so don't expect a perfect yellow colour throughout).

This gorgeous 'Sunflower' hangs from a necklace of brown wooden tube beads, sterling silver beads, chalk turquoise rondelles and yellow turquoise 'leaves'.

The fastening of this unique piece of handmade jewelry is a silver plated lobster claw clasp.

Length: 51cm plus 5cm extension chain ('Sunflower' is 8cm long)
