Lapis Druzy GECKO Brooch

On display (& for sale) at Waiheke Island Art Gallery.

This handmade art jewelry piece features a Lapis Art Cabochon gemstone with drusy.  The gorgeous blue coloured triangle of Lapis has an uneven surface which has been coated to protect the gold bits.

Lapis comes from Afghanistan and all of it is mined so deep in the mountains that it must be all carried out on the backs of donkeys! The warfare and strife in that country has made lapis more difficult to obtain, so these pieces are really special.

"What is druzy?" If you've ever seen the inside of a geode that's covered with a sparkling carpet of crystal, that's druzy (spelled technically as "drusy").

Other materials: Sterling silver Gecko charm, Faux bone, sterling silver, merino wool, tiny handsewn beads, microscrews, base metal washers, copper backplate (stamped 'GingaSquid', brooch pin.

Length: 6.5cm (about 2 1/2 inches)

Width: 6cm
